The Gospel: What It Is and Why It Matters

God is the Gospel” – book by John Piper

Meditations on God’s Love as the Gift of Himself

This book is a plea that God himself, as revealed most clearly and fully in Jesus’s death and resurrection, be seen and enjoyed as the final and greatest gift of the gospel.

The gospel of Jesus and his many precious blessings are not ultimately what makes the good news good, but means of seeing and savoring the Savior himself. Forgiveness is good because it opens the way to enjoying God himself. Justification is good because it wins access to the presence and pleasure of God himself. Eternal life is good because it becomes the everlasting enjoyment of Jesus.

All God’s good gifts are loving to the degree that they lead us to God himself. This is the love of God: doing everything necessary, most painfully in the death of his Son, to enthrall us with what is most deeply and durably satisfying—namely, himself.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ” – book by Paul Washer

Paul Washer escorts readers through a biblical overview of the good news about Jesus. Presenting passage after passage from the Bible, Washer describes the holy character of God, the human problem of sin, and the divine solution found in Jesus’s redemptive life, death, and resurrection for all who repent and believe. If you are interested in knowing the basic claims of the gospel or know someone exploring the truths of Christ, this succinct treatment of the greatest news the world has ever heard is just what you need

Who Is God?

The Holiness of God” – book by R.C. Sproul

Central to God’s character is the quality of holiness. Yet, even so, most people are hard-pressed to define what God’s holiness precisely is. Many preachers today avoid the topic altogether because people today don’t quite know what to do with words like “awe” or “fear.” R. C. Sproul, in this classic work, puts the holiness of God in its proper and central place in the Christian life. He paints an awe-inspiring vision of God that encourages Christian to become holy just as God is holy. Once you encounter the holiness of God, your life will never be the same.

Next Steps

I rejoice with you in the glorious work of God that has brought you to this saving faith. You are now a child of God, redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. You have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light, and though this path is narrow, it leads to life everlasting.

Be steadfast and immovable in the faith. The road ahead is not without trials. Jesus Himself said, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). You will face temptations, sufferings, and the schemes of the enemy, but know this—”He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). The strength to persevere does not come from you; it comes from “Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy” (Jude 1:24).

Commit yourself to the Word of God. It is your sword, your defense, your food, and your guide. As the psalmist declares, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). Daily immerse yourself in Scripture, for it is “breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Stay vigilant in prayer. Prayer is not merely a discipline; it is your lifeline to communion with the Father. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace,” casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you (Hebrews 4:16, 1 Peter 5:7).

Surround yourself with a faithful body of believers. You were not saved to walk alone but to be part of Christ’s body. Find a church where the Word is preached faithfully, the gospel is central, and holiness is pursued. Seek out mentors and accountability partners who will speak truth into your life and encourage you to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

Remember, the call to follow Christ is not a call to an easy life; it is a call to die to yourself and take up your cross daily (Luke 9:23). But oh, the joy of knowing Him, the surpassing worth of Christ! “Press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14). This world will pass away, but what is eternal will never fade.

“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2). Take courage, dear saint. You are His, and nothing—”neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39).

Run the race with endurance, keeping your hope fixed on that eternal glory that will far outweigh any momentary affliction. You are loved, secured, and held by the sovereign hand of Almighty God.

Grace and peace to you,
In Christ,
Your fellow servant
